Tonton maurice, farmer
Client Riot House Production
THE PROJECT
Maurice is the kind of person you cannot forget. A modest dairy farmer living in the Auvergne Mountains since his birth. But Maurice is also Damien’s uncle by marriage, one of the co-founders of Riot House. So it was quite naturally that he became the central figure of a personal project that started in spring 2012.
Born from a simple video challenge launched within our team, this short film quickly became a success on the web. His outspokenness, the poetry of his philosophy, his simplicity and his outlook on life moved many spectators. This is what led us to present this portrait at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2013.
THE SHOOTING
We shot during two sunny afternoons and the shooting was just like these images of Maurice: the simplest possible. We really wanted that the shooting conditions were as light as possible regarding the material. The main objective was to be reactive and to let the spontaneity of Uncle Maurice express itself.
The moving shot side accentuates the feeling to be next to Tonton (affectuate term for Uncle) while watching this clip.
So we obtained a short film full of authenticity that will make you travel through the Auvergne countryside.
